There has often been confusion about the church’s place in the story God is writing in history. The church is different and unique compared to the history God has with Israel. Some have claimed that the church is the new Israel and that it replaces Israel in God’s plan and covenants since Israel did not accept their Messiah when He came to them (“What Is Replacement Theology?”). This can seem like a logical solution, and it is a popular approach to take any scripture or promise made to Israel and apply it universally and often spiritualize it. However, when scripture is studied carefully and interpreted literally, it is apparent that this is not the case. The church is unique and distinct from Israel, yet in no way replacing Israel in God’s prophetic program nor awaiting the fulfillment of covenants and prophecy given specifically to Israel.

The True Vine
John 15:1-8
In John 15 Jesus was teaching his disciples, telling them that He is the true vine. He was giving his last teachings to his disciples before being arrested and crucified. Jesus knew what was soon going happen to him, and he was preparing his disciples to follow him after his death and after his nearing ascension into heaven. He taught them that the Holy Spirit was going to come to guide them, and he taught them some important lessons about the lives they would live as his followers. Continue reading

Evangelism is for Everyone
In today’s Christian culture, evangelism is often overlooked. Many Christians in church today believe that evangelism is something that only certain people, like pastors, are able to do or should do. How many of us have heard the topic mentioned and thought, “Oh, that’s just not for me,” or “Someone else more qualified will do that,”? When we hear the word “evangelism”, many of us picture someone knocking on doors like their selling something, or a preacher on a street corner yelling at people. That’s not what we want to do or who we want to be, so we deny our responsibility to share our faith. We often put it off or tell ourselves that it simply isn’t our gift or calling. Here’s the thing though: It is. Continue reading
